I concur with what Matthew Yglesias says about
revamping the physical representation of our currency. On the one hand, this would save money. On the other hand, it moves everybody's cheese around. Which side to conservatives come down on? I'm genuinely curious.

While I don't have a problem with dollar coins (I use them in Canada, which doesn't have dollar bills, but does have both 1 and 2-dollar coins), the important step would be to make sure dollar coins are sufficientlt distinctive (vs., say, the SBA dollar that looked too much like a quarter.) OTOH, Mrs. M was griping today about the 50-state quarters, which sometimes look too much like Candaian coins. Go figure...
